What is a 100 Level Official?


- Can work primary position at a level of top 10-15 in the state by the following:
 

**Ability
- Could work any secondary position on the field at a high level
- Consistent, exceptional communication with crew, coaches and players both on and off the field
- Maintains a confident on the field presence with the crew, coaches and players
- Demonstrates great/game-management, professionalism at all times, on and off the field
- Emotionally stable and alert
- Physically fit
- Wears appropriate equipment not faded or dirty.

 

**Mechanics
- Makes a concerted effort to continually improve mechanically
- Doesn’t deviate from mechanics approved by the joint board or NFHS
- Makes consistent and crisp signals
- Has clock awareness
- Consistently in position to make calls, hustles
- Consistent dead-ball official

 

**Judgement
- Ability to make or not make calls under pressure
- Calm under pressure, courage to make the correct call
- Understands and uses preventive officiating
- Manages game as opposed to policing

 

**Rules
- Pass both exam 1 and exam 2 each year.
- Makes a concerted effort to continually improve rules knowledge
- Can make split-second decisions correctly in accordance to the rules
- Knows and understands penalty enforcement
- Watches film to understand where he/she needs to improve
- Discernment between rules vs philosophy

 

**Good Crew Member
- Demonstrates the ability to be a great team member, no matter the circumstances.
- Can mentor a young officials
- Take constructive criticism to improve
- Contributes in pre-game assignments
- Professional positive attitude toward crew, coaches and players
- Can be trusted by crew that he/she has arrived prepared and ready to work
- Willingness to admit mistakes and make improvements
- Does not over-officiate
- Never alienates a fellow official on or off the field
- Checks ego at the door

 

**Contributes to Local Association
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings
- Contributes during meetings constructively
- Actively participates in mentoring
- Volunteers when opportunities present themselves

 

**Desire
- Makes a concerted effort to always improve
- Make him/herself available to work outside geographic areas
- Arrives on time
- Preparation
- Does not devalue the importance of any game, no game is too small
- Has fun
- Arrives to games dressed professionally
- Facial hair, none
